CODE OF CONDUCT AND EQUAL OPPORTUNITIES STATEMENT

IQ Education Recruitment teachers are expected to adhere to the following code of conduct, which represents a condition of their employment with IQ Education Recruitment.

TIME KEEPING

. For assignments that have been pre-booked, teachers are expected to arrive at school at the agreed time, generally before 8.15 am. For assignments that have been organised that day arrival as early as possible is expected. IQ Education Recruitment reserves the right to make deductions from pay in the event of lateness or unauthorised absence.

DRESS CODE

. Teachers are professional people and should dress accordingly. Smart dress is advised on the first day and dress can then be tailored appropriately. Some schools have dress codes including many multi-cultural schools where inappropriate dress can give offence. If this is the case then you will be advised appropriately.

PREPARATION

. It is essential that you arrive at the school properly equipped for the task in hand. If any specialist equipment is required, you will be advised.

CURRICULUM

. When on supply, you are expected to teach with the materials provided by the school unless advised otherwise. In the absence of set work, lessons should be commensurate with the age and ability of the pupils, and in accordance with the curriculum. Marking work and setting homework is part of any teachers' job. Individual school policies should be referred to for further information.

SCHOOL RESOURCES

. Use of school resources should be restricted to essential purposes required for the job, ask the Head or Deputy if in doubt. Such resources (telephone, fax, copiers etc) are generally not for the personal use of staff. Should you have an urgent need to make use of such facilities, please do not hesitate to ask IQ Education Recruitment to help.

FOLLOWING SCHOOLS RULES AND CUSTOMS

. Teachers must arrive promptly for lessons and observe the school's rules, customs and procedures. IQ Education Recruitment teachers should familiarise themselves with school policies on discipline and equal opportunities. Teachers should under no circumstances commit the school to an agreement without first clearing the issue with the Headteacher or Deputy. Serious disciplinary matters should be reported to the Head or Deputy, and staff are reminded that physical punishment of any type is strictly illegal in the United Kingdom. Physical contact should be avoided except where appropriate, i.e. in the case of injury. Inappropriate contact with children will lead to the termination of your contract with IQ Education Recruitment and could result in criminal prosecution.

END OF THE DAY

. When an assignment is completed, you are requested to leave notes on the work that has been covered in the absence of the regular teacher and you are expected to leave the classroom in a tidy condition. Before leaving the school, you must ensure that all pupils under your care have left the school safely, complete with belongings. This is especially important in the case of younger pupils, who must not be left unattended.

EXTRA - CURRICULAR DUTIES

. Where assignments are longer than a week, IQ Education Recruitment teachers would be expected to assist in non-teaching duties. Where assignments are longer than four weeks, IQ Education Recruitment teachers must be prepared to assist in a full range of professional activities including report writing, completing assessments, attending parents' meetings, staff meetings, and invigilating and marking examinations.
